Anyone have a 7k320 yet?

#1 Post by DarkScythe » Fri Jul 25, 2008 7:19 pm

Hello,

I've been eyeing a new 7K320 320GB hard drive for a while now, since my T60 came with a 5k80 which feels SO SLOW. I thought it was going to be a very minor difference stepping down from my T42's 60GB 7,200rpm PATA drive, but I was very wrong. It's driving me nuts.
I was going to get a 7k200 but then the 7k320 was around the corner so I waited.

Availability is still quite low right now, but I'm curious if anyone has gotten their hands on one yet, and wonder about its compatibility with T60's. I don't want to run into a problem where the T60 rejects it.

Try otherworldcomputing, they seem to get stock first for some reason, macsales.com is their site I think.

Yep, they have now the new 7K320 series. Can't wait to get a new laptop. I suppose having a SATA 3.0Gbps is a dramatic performance difference versus the old PATA 7K100, anyone knows by how much?

I think you can throw any SATA HDD on your T60 and it will work just fine, we're not talking about T43's & R52 having the stupid IBM firmware error

I just ordered one of the 7K320 drive from macsales.com today for about $192. They're in stock and should arrive next week.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

I'll definately get one. Is it easy to replace the hard drive in a Thinkpad T61(p)?

Yeah, I've seen the one at OWC/eMacSales for a while now.. In fact they were the only ones with them in stock for the past 2-3 weeks. They had a $30 MIR before that brought price down to $170AR.

Unfortunately, I wasn't very sure so I didn't bite. ZipZoomFly appears to have picked up their rebate now, at $190 - 30 = $160AR, but of course, not in stock.

It's still a wee bit too expensive for my wallet tho.. I'll have to sit and wait for the price to come down some more.. Or try to sell a few old things.
