Honey, is that a stuck pixel on my screen?

Here I am, proud to have found one of the last new T61's with a 14.1" SXGA+, and guess what suddenly appeared last night? A pseudo-stuck pixel at the bottom on the taskbar, right next to the rightmost icon in the quicklaunch area. What is baffling me is that it appears as a grey dot (I am using silver buttons in Win XP) but when I have open applications i.e. a bright window is open above, it becomes such a light grey I can barely see it or sometimes it disappears altogether; close or minimise the windows and it is back - as a grey dot, sometimes reddish. I have massaged it, tried the scrollbar button, run jscreen, online pixel massagers, you name it, but it keeps coming back again. When I run PC doctor, I cannot find it under any colour fullscreen!

By definition, it is not a stuck pixel: it's not always on and it's not of any specific colour and moreover, it even changes colour or disappears!

This is my 4th TP and I am annoyed cos it's the first time I am having an issue like that - and it's really driving nuts cos I bought my machine specifically for the screen. Any ideas or suggestions?

try reinstalling your video driver.   it's a long shot but i've seen it work before in cases like yours.

I believe that this is caused by the UltraNav driver. If you search the forum using:

pixel middle button ultranav

then you should get almost 20 hits that reference this problem. Solution is to click the middle button.

Guys, thanks for your prompt posts. And yes and yes to both of you, I have tried, but to no avail :(

But it's such a weird problem. I have not come across anything like that - a "morphing" pixel which reacts to light above it. Dark window or wallpaper and it's there, bright open windows above, nothing or just a light "shadowy" stuck pixel. That is so weird!

I actually have a new widescreen 14.1" WXGA+ 7663 for my wife and I am on the brink of swapping my 8892 against it, but my SXGA+ screen is actually brighter and seems to have better contrast than her 1440x900. Man, this is driving me insane...

Seems ther are now "zombie" pixels in addition to dead or stuck ones?

Have the same issue. Very weird and annoying.

In my case resetting system, changing resolution, close the lid (random things) helps, but it's not really a solution. It's like GPU or chip in matrix have some bug.
