Does the Nvidia defective GPU problem affect T61/T61p?

#1 Post by dickeywang » Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:56 am

According to this article on DailyTech.com:
http://www.dailytech.com/Dell+HP+Lists+ ... e12553.htm
Some(if not all) of the Nvidia 8600M/8400M GPU are defective and the defective GPUs can not tolerant the designed maximum temperatures.
I am wondering if the T61/T61p series are also affected since the NVS 140M is based on the 8400M and the Quadro FX 570M is based on 8600M.

T60 (2007-66U): upgraded to C2D T7400, 2GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (sold).
T61 (8891-CTO): C2D T7300, 4GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, Nvidia Quadro FX 570M (128MB).

How many threads for this topic do we really need? Can't the mods consolidate all of these?

It would presumably be easier for the mods if people didn't keep on making new threads:

dickeywang: The T61/p uses the chips affected. There is no difference in hardware between NVIDIA's standard cards and Quadros.
X220/IPS, T60p/IPS
Nothing endures but change
