how to revert back to Power Manager v2.20?

#1 Post by bautista.ekonomista » Mon Aug 11, 2008 2:27 am

Greetings everyone!

After updating my T61 a few days ago, it has sported a new Power Manager version (v2.30) that comes not only with a new GUI but also a new set of instructions.

However, a few "anomalies" have popped out ever since updating to such version. First, a file named ATMdump is in My Documents and cannot be deleted. Second, when I remove the AC charger, my Thinkpad automatically loses brightness (the brightness bar suddenly empties) and the screen blacks out after 30 seconds (I think that feature is in battery stretch) yet the power mode is still in High Performance and battery stretch is turned off.

Is there any way I can go back to v2.20 of Power Manager? If there is any way to do such, how am I going to do it?

I hope anyone in the forum has an answer to such query... I found a similar post in the lenovo forums but the answer is very limited (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/mess ... e.id=12991)

Thanks a lot! :D

The original power manager might be in a subfolder of C:\IBMTOOLS\. Look for it. If it's there, uninstall the current power manager in control panel, add/remove programs and install the old one.

Just checked C:\ but no IBM tools folder exists.

Btw, I have already solved the problem of the screen dimming after removing the AC charger by resetting the max performance option to its default settings!

Do you people have the same problem with me about the new version of Power Manager?

Yes, I got tired of the new power manager taking forever to load and many times not showing up on the task bar at all. It seemed to introduce some instability to my system.

I decided to downgrade back to v. 2.20.

I found it at the following link:

http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/25423 ... nload.html

It says it's for the x series but if you look at the supported systems, T6x is included. This is the vista version.

As to how you downgrade. You go to control panel, programs & features, and uninstall Thinkvantage power manager. Then reboot.

Then click on the file you downloaded from the above referenced link and follow the prompts. Click "yes to all" when it asks to overwrite files in your C:\Drivers directory. Then go to the directory where it overwrote the files and click "setup.exe" and the power manager will install. Reboot when instructed and you should be done.
