Can anyone recomment a good carrying case for a T61? Are the ones offered by Lenovo any good or are there better 3rd party ones available? I'm not interested in leather, just a good, well padded nylon or a hard case.

Thanks for your help!

Pelican has a very good hard protective case. Used one for several years.

Since then I have gone to using an "unobstrusive" backpack from Crumpler - don't like to advertise I have got a valuable laptop with me, especially in third world countries / poor areas.

Am using a buckwheat husks "pillow" at the bottom to protect it against accidental drops. Need the buckwheat husk pillow for putting a camera on (it is the lightest support for a camera when travelling, lighter than a tripod and easier to carry. Still handy to use).

Crumpler quality is outstanding, well padded and well made.

I've had a widescreen 15" T61 for a few weeks, and purchased the appropriately-sized Tom Binh case called the "Horizontal Brain Cell". (www.tombinh.com). It ran $60 plus shipping. This product cushions the Thinkpad well, has enough room in the pocket for my AC adaptor, has a good reputation, and strikes me as attractive in the burnt orange color that I chose. Add it to your "worthy of pondering" list.
