Is this machine a 64bit laptop if it came with 64bit Vista?

This comes with Vista Business 64 pre-installed. Does that mean this is a 64 bit machine? Also, would I be able to install Windows XP 32bit still or would it need a 64 bit version now?

Thanks

You'll still be able to go to 32-bit version of Windows if you need to. And if Lenovo (or anyone else for that fact) pre-installed a 64-bit OS it is a 64-bit machine...

Hope this helps.

It absolutely helps. Thanks for the info. It's really hard to find accurate information on the Lenovo site when they only have the 6459-CTO as opposed to the old way when it was like 6459-xxx.

Normally there is a product number right under the CTO model number on the back. You can find the product number in BIOS too. This product number works the same as a model number. If you enter the product number on Leovo's website instead of XXXX-CTO, you will get detailed specifications just like the other non-CTO models.

Unfortunately for the two machines I have, they both just show xxxx-cto where you told me to look. I'll have to check the BIOS later and hopefully it will have more useful information there.

All current Thinkpad models have 64 bit processors and are therefore "64 bit machines".

Yes, you can if you want to.
