NMB is the best keyboard right?

#1 Post by paOol » Mon Aug 11, 2008 9:18 pm

as some of you probably saw in my other thread, i spilled water over my keyboard, and some of the keys dont work.

im assuming they will completely dry eventually and it'll work again, but for now it has gotten pretty bad.
at first the enter key didn't work, so i would use the onscreen keyboard, and a usb keyboard,

but now, the power button doesn't work.

the other parts of the laptop are fine because when i plug in the a/c adapter, the lights go on, but pressing the power button doesn't do anything.

anywho, what is the model number for an NMB keyboard?
i plan to buy one and let my current ALP dry for a long time.

thanks, i want to order it by tonight.

p.s do any retail stores carry them by chance? i would think bestbuy for business if anything, but i doubt they will
ordered (8/12), estimated ship date (8/30). cant wait!!!

With MOST keyboards, and MOST electronics, the procedure for water spills is the same as the one Thor Heyrdahl used in 1947 on the Kon-Tiki raft.

First, remove the keyboard and remove all batteries from the device. Laptops may have two additional internal batteries.

Next, rinse the keyboard in the finest water you can get, preferably distilled. (About $1.50 a gallon in the laundry section of a supermart). This is to remove any traces of minerals that might be in the water you got on it the first time.

Next, rinse with plain rubbing alcohol, 40-70% isopropanol. PLAIN with no "nutrients" or sugars or other additives, about a buck a pint in the drug store. As the alchohol evaporates, it pulls the water with it, so the keyboard dries faster and more thoroughly. Alcohol usually does not affect electronics.

Now let it be, in someplace warm for 24-48 hours. A warm sunny windowsill or your dashboard is a good place, you want it to dry--but not COOK.

Finally, put it back together again. Odds are it will work just fine, but if it doesn't--you've done all that the best professional shops could have done, and it only cost you $3-4 and some time.

not sure if you ordered your replacement yet but I have all 3 keyboards and I have to say that to me Alps is the best keyboard. It's a matter of personal touch too.
Good luck,
Scott
