T61p high pitched buzzing

My t61p makes this buzzing noise when running on battery power. I can't exactly describe it perfectly. Anyways, you can hear it when you put your ear close to the computer. Sometimes, you can hear it loud enough especially when using graphics intensive applications. the sound seems to be coming from underneath the red trackpoint (nipple). I've searched the internet, it seems the only viable solution is to disable the CPU power management from the BIOS. I don't want to do that though. Is there an alternative?
