The 7200, 7400, and 7600 (crazyfrogs posts) were described as being usable in -60's/61's. Looking on eBay, the only chip that actually says 478 pin package is the 7200. The 7400 and 7600 say 479:

Yes, all three are Micro-FCPGA, yet only one(7200) says 478 pin package. I wrote several of these 7400 and 7600 sellers and asked if the chip has pins or bumps, they replied: pins. That confirmed they are -PGA. Can anyone please tell me.. are there 479 socket Micro-FCPGA chips out there?

The T60/61 spec sheet lists the 7200/7400 as options (guess the 7600 wasnt out yet).. but are they for different mobos? The 7400 would be my choice (there's only one 7600 and it's $316) but neither(7400 or 7600 above) says 478 pin package..

Which would you pick for a Intel T2400-chipped, 2008-CM5 T60, and if it doesnt fit my board, will you buy it back

These are intel's processor spec pages of T7200, T7400 and T7600. Please note that Intel offers two packages (Micro-FCBGA and Micro-FCPGA) to each processor.

So here are the possible two answers to the question:
1. Intel is making a mistake in their own product description;
2. The ebay seller is selling moded processors, or even engineering samples (I know somebody can do this).

I leave the dilemma to you.

Take a look at the pics in the listings. These T7400/T7600 have 26x26-14x14-2=478 pins, not 479 pins! The seller himself must be fooled by CPUZ.

After a little digging, I am 99.99% sure the above T7400/7600 on ebay originally come with Micro-FCBGA (Micro Flip Chip Ball Grid Array) package, but they were moded into a Micro-FCPGA looking with pins!

Let me explain the trick.

These Micro-FCBGA T7200/T7400/T7600 processors don't have pins and they must be soldered to the mainboard. Obviously, they are not produced for retail market, because no customer can do the job.

These Micro-FCBGA processors are OEM products and are originally made for laptop manufacturers! But they leaked out. Some ebay sellers managed to grab and mod them into Micro-FCPGA looking with pins, so they can make good money from the price difference between retail product and OEM product.

These moded T7400 (SL9SK)/T7600 (SL9SJ) processors should work fine just as those genuine T7400 (SL9SE)/T7600 (SL9SD) with Micro-FCPGA package do, but you'd better cross your fingers for the reliability of soldering from a non-intel workshop in Hongkong.

Read the Question & Answer section of the listing, the seller confirmed my guess:

Q: It's new? It looks like it has had the pins soldered on to it. That model is supposed to be BALL GRID ARRAY, and this one has PINS. How new/retail can it be if someone has soldered pins onto it? 22-Aug-08

A: Its new retail version. It is originally bga. but I've asked professional IC packaging company to converted it from bga to pga already. This processor is less expensive but run the same in CPU-Z. I've upgraded plenty of laptops with this processor to know that there is nothing deficient about it. thank u

But the seller is lying about one thing, the T7600 is NOT new retail version.
