T60p icons slow to appear in my computer

#1 Post by reid210 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:41 pm

Hi. i have T60p 2.33 GHz,T2700, 3Gb Ram, CoreDuo. Lately i have been noticing when i double click the "my computer" icon, it takes about 30 seconds to open and show the icons. The icons that appear when it opens is Preload C, DVD Drive, America online, mobile device, my bluetooth places, Shared documents, Reid's documents, and logitech pictures. On my T43p it was almost instantaneous. Is there something i can do to speed it up back to normal? It is about a 144 GB 7200 Hard drive. The drive is about 1/2 full. Some people have told me this means my hard drive is about to crash. Any help would be appreciated.

Does it happen only with My Computer, or with othe folders as well?

If it is only My Computer, it could be that the delay is due to the laptop trying (for a very long time) to find a missing file.

There are many people with similar problem. You may find some solutions among the suggested here:

Only in My Computer. Is there a way to find out what the missing file (if that's what it is) is?

check to see if the following option is enabled:

doubleclick 'my computer'
select 'tools' from the menu bar
select the 'view' tab
1st item under 'files and folders': 'automatically search for network files and folders'

if enabled, try disabling it. don't know if reboot is necessary.

Before I had chance to check back, I followed the link in the first response, tried a few solutions. Decided to try Disabling WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) Service as suggested through Microsoft Forum and BINGO!!! It works beautiful now! Will see what problems develop as result of disabling WIA service. If anyone knows, please let me know. LOL Thanks for all everyone's help.
