Windows XP is starting up... problem

Hi,
I am the happy owner of a T61p with windows xp installed. While installing updates from Lenovo (system update), the site proposed me to upgrade the BIOS, which I did.
After reboot, I had a screen saying something about a security chip tamper, but it rebooted fine and started xp.
I noticed that the first Windows screen comes up after normal booting time (the black one with the loading bar). Then there is a second screen (it is light blue and it is saying "windows xp is starting up...") which takes an unusual and very annoying 3 minutes (actual minutes) to go away. I can finally use my computer after this (it loads startup services etc at a decent speed.
I don't know if this problem has to do with the BIOS upgrade, the tamper message I got, or if this is something totally unrelated, but I could not find the reason for why this screen takes so long (the system is maybe looking for something it cannot find ?)
That would be great if someone could give me some advices on how to get rid of this endless startup
thank you
Oh, as far as I know, the system seems to be clean of viruses, etc...
