Can I change media card reader to expresscard?

I realize I made a mistake in configuring my T61 with the media card reader instead of the expresscard slot (since I could have just bought a card reader to plug into the expresscard slot).

Is it possible to swap parts out to make the change? I haven't been able to find a clear answer on the forums. I'm comfortable with opening the case, have completely stripped T23s, replaced LCD components, etc. in the past.

Yes you can. It will involve taking base out and replacing not only PCMCIA unit but also plastic insert from base cover. It definitely can be done but would involve quite heavy disassembling. Basically you would need to completely tear it down. I am looking to do just the opposite from what you are trying to do. Let me know if you interested we could swap and I can do all the work for you.

I actually recently purchased the expresscard/PC Card module on eBay. I'm comfortable disassembling the T61 - I've stripped my T23 just about all the way down to the plastics a couple times. However, I'm going to hold off until the earlier of my warranty expiration or really needing the expresscard functionality before I do the swap.

Understand your concer with warranty. D not forget that plastic part going on the base cover to replace the one for media card. Good luck!
