Undervolting

Hi everyone,
I recently was able to undervolt my T9300 CPU to 1.0375 V from a default of 1.1375 resulting in approx 10 C cooler max temperature using RightMark CPU Clock Utility.
This success made me want to try to undervolt the GPU as well, except I haven't done it so I was wondering if anyone else had. Since I have the Quadro FX 570M, which is G84 based, and possibility on the list of Nvidia's defective chips, overheating is a very serious issue.

I have heard that people have used Nibtor to change settings so that's the only starting point I have now.

I don't think you could shave that much temp on your GPU as it happens on the CPU.

I have also undervolted my T8100 to the lowest settings on all multipliers.

I think it is best that the heatsink is doing its job rather than hoping undervolting it could have a significant impact.

There is any software to undervolt a GPU. You can edit the voltage of the bios file for a desktop GPU with NiBiTor but it's impossible to do it for a mobile GPU.

It's a pity because we can save much more power from GPU than CPU.

NHC helped me to use Powerplay to undervolt and underclock my ATI FireGL on my T42p. There was a maximum difference of 2C idling but at load the difference was bigger.

I wonder if there such a tool similar to Ati tool but for nVidia Cards.

I tried to use NHC but it the setting for enabling Nvidia Powermixer was grayed out. There wasn't any other place that allowed me to regulate the GPU voltage...

My understanding is that the Nvidia driver update that was available from Lenovo a couple of weeks after the problem was announced, is supposed to deal with this issue.

Any GPU "undervolting" is supposed to already be enabled by default, just go to the ATI or Nvidia control panel and they'll have low/medium/max settings (that adjust the voltage and speed). There is no fine grained control of voltage available, and you can't make the GPUs run below design voltage like you can with CPUs.

Update to the old topic:
Looking into T61's schematics, I have found that the GPU power supply system used 5 VID (VID[0..4]) controlled by ADP3209 chip. The voltage for 3 levels of PowerMize are 0.95, 1.1, and 1.2V for my NVS 140M. I will play a bit with these VID to get lower GPU voltage like many other people do it for CPUs. But I don't have time to do it now
