Advanced Dock stopped charging battery in T60p - what to do?

#1 Post by basketb » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:04 pm

My colleague's Advanced Dock no longer charges the battery of his T60p when docked. Everything else on the dock (e.g., external display, USB ports, etc.) apparently still works. Tests with another AC adapter and another dock show that the T60p's battery is good.
Any ideas what the cause could be or better yet, how to fix it? (given that the dock is out of warranty, sending it back to Lenovo does not seem to be an option).

Do another AC adapter and another dock charge the battery in your T60p?

The Advanced Dock probably isn't responsible for non-charging problem if everything else is working. You can do the following test:

1. Dock your T60p and launch ThinkPad Power Manager and click Battery Information tab. Then check the the information under the button "Battery Maintenance ...". It should read "90W AC adapter is attached."

2. You may also click the "Battery Maintenance ..." button and reset the charge thresholds properly.

Silly thing but check to see if the contact on both the laptop and the dock are clean. Also, try using another T60(p) in the same advanced dock to narrow down the problem.
