CPU and Palmrest/Touchpad Upgrade?

#1 Post by {ISV-K}SVX » Mon Aug 25, 2008 11:21 pm

Has anyone tried to upgrade their Merom based Core 2 to a T9XXX series CPU on a T61/T61p? I have a T7500 and am looking to upgrade to a T9300. Are there any issues I should be concerned with? Of course I will lap with some AS5 or Tuniq TX-2.

Secondly, in looking at the T500/W500 and Notebookreviews review of the T500, the palmrest with the wide touchpad looks like it could be installed on a T61 series without an issue.

Can anyone confirm this to be true? I posted in the above thread as well. If it is compatible, then I am going to jump on this and order through Boulder Parts.

I have successfully upgraded my T61p (6460XG) processor from T7500 to T9300. Works fine and I don't get any errors when I power on.

PC wizard 2008 reports my cpu idle temp (both cores) as 27 / 28 degrees cel. Gpu temp is 55 degress cel and WDC 320gb 7200rpm harddisk is 38 degrees cel. Acpi thermal zone is 50 degrees cel which I assume is because of the Gpu. This is while using think vantage power manager maximum performance profile and browing the web.

My original motherboard (system planar?) was listed as "FRU 42W7653" when I did a parts lookup for my system ( believe that was one of the earlier motherboadrd). This was replaced under warranty by Lenovo UK with FRU 44C3931 (Lenovo Document id: MIGR-69684 refers). I'm on bios version 2.21.

Hope this info is of use.

It certainly helps!! Thanks a bunch. My planar Fru does not fall in that affected category for game crashing which is good to know.
