Bluetooth Icons in the Tray (XP)

My relatively new T61 has inbuilt Bluetooth, and so far the only thing I've figured out to do with it is to connect my rarely-used cellular phone to transfer some pictures and ringtones. It takes longer to establish that connection than it would to plug in the USB cable to the phone, but I digress...
I just noticed that there are two icons in the tray dealing with Bluetooth. One, a royal blue and white icon, pops up "Bluetooth on T61" when I hover thereover. The other is a traditional network connection icon with a red X over it, saying of course "a network cable is unplugged". Hovering pops up "Bluetooth network".
I guess I'm confused about the distinction between them. I note that the network guy seems to want to be there in the tray, even though I've unchecked the two boxes in Network Connections that control the icon. Oh well.
So what in the world do I have here, and what can I do with it?
Art, obviously not Mr. Bluetooth
