Access Connections taking up a ton of ram

Every now and then, Access Conncetions feels entitled to use up 2gb of my ram. This doesn't happen often, but when it does it makes me want to pull my hair out. Any ideas?

do you have a large number of different network profiles? maybe ac is overkill for your situation. it's one of the first things i uninstall. ymmv...

I do, but as much as I liked AC I decided it had to go - even when it was working "properly" it was taking up over 100mb. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem was still happening every few boots.

I found AC to be bloated overkill for me. I downloaded and installed the generic Atheros driver and client, my wireless works just fine. If you wanted to be even leaner, you could let Windows manage connections, but I prefer the Atheros client, which is nice and simple, but allows me to save profiles, etc. (just in case I ever return to that Holiday Inn next to the freeway in Syracuse :) )

I have been running AC for years, and on my machines it doesn't use 1/10 of that. Of course, do not use it if it causes you problems, but I know my AC is properly installed, has a dozen profiles, causes no problems and uses very little memory.

It is a funny (strange) program in that for some of us it performs wonderfully well, and for others of us, it doesn't work well at all.

Actually the AC run away memory problem is well documented on the Lenovo forum as a previous message stated. The fix is to download AC 5.02 here. It was just released on 8/22.

Old thread, but question.... I see that AC is using 20M of memory on my T60p. I don't have multiple connections, so that's 20M I'd like back. If I uninstall AC, will the wifi and ethernet still work? Someone mentioned getting the generic Atheros driver. Where would I find that?

When you uninstall AC, Windows will take over the management of both wired and wireless. If it needs additional drivers (but I don't think it does), it'll tell you.

Thanks. I'll uninstall AC.

BTW, I tried to install the 5.02 updated version listed above, but according to that page, 5.02 is only for Vista. I am running XP.

If you follow that link, then look under "Additional Information".
(btw: the latest version now seems to be 5.12)
