Vista Not Shutting Down on T61p - Solved

#1 Post by mixz1 » Tue Sep 02, 2008 2:31 pm

I thought I'd share this with the board. A few days days after a clean install of Vista Ultimate I began having serious delays in shutting down, and sometimes not being able to shutdown at all without hitting the power switch. A search through the Microsoft Discussion Groups led to a KB article 945533 titled When you try to shut down a Windows Vista-based computer on which a Bluetooth device is installed, the computer stops responding. You can view the article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945533/en-us

There is a hotfix available which when applied to my computer immediately resolved the problem. You have to apply to receive the hotfix, but it literally took less than a minute for the email response with the link to the hotfix. If any of you are experiencing this problem you may want to give this a try.

Thanks for sharing.
Since the hotfix is 9 months old already, does it even apply to SP1 Vistas?

Yes. My install is Ultimate SP1. Note that it's one of M$'s restricted Hotfixes. You have to ask for it. Then they send you an email with a link to the zipped file and the password to open it. It was not part of the service pack.
