What are the plastic gray things by the PC express slot?

What are the plastic gray things by the PC express slot?

So I have a T61p. On the front left of the laptop by the pc express slot there are two gray things that click in and out. Do they keep something in place in the express slot?

They are the eject buttons once you put something in the slot.
