T61, Screen goes blank after Win Xp Screen

ok,
i have a user whos t61 is doing the following.

when powering it on in a docking station, with external monitor, laptop boots to win xp fine.

when you try to boot the laptop with out the docking station, it gets past the windows xp screen, and then it goes black, (and looks like the power to the screen is stopped) . it then makes a beep. but the screen is black.

Redocking the laptop then, brings up the display on the monitor, where you can see the mouse working, but nothing else.


the user had desktop spanning enabled, but im sure this shouldnt effect the booting up of this laptop outside the docking station.


If any one can shed some light on this, id appreciate it.

While booting get into the bios setups and check which monitors are selected. F1 during bootup should take you into the bios.
