Recovery using Portable HDD

I have Vista Home Premium in my T61, Is there any possibility to
create make recovery details stored in my portable HDD (Western
Digital MyPassport)
so that i can avoid using DVD's or CDs to create recovery disk

Possibly, but how would that help if the external hard drive gets damaged. Besides, You will still need to make a cd to boot from unless you are going to use the whole external hard drive for recovery only.
CD/DVD's are cheap. Just spend 5 bucks to make the set and be done with it.
T60 2623-D7U, 3 GB Ram.
