t60p to t61p -- worth it?

tried posting thing but lost it somehow --

long story short, worth upgrading from my current
t60p (T7200, XPpro, 3gigs, ATI FireGL)

to a t61p (vista64, 4gigs, NVidia)?

mostly for 3D cad.

could maybe get $800 for my t60p
would have to shell out another 800 on top of that.

from those of you who've switched, think its worth it?

(The W500 looks good, but carries the same graphics card
I have now).

Thanks!

My humble opinion is that if 3D Cad runs well on your current machine, and it otherwise does what you want it to, then keep it.

Not quite. W500's FirePro V5700 is 2 generations newer than T60p's FireGL V5250. 2 generations difference is astronomical in GPU world.

I rather upgrade to a W500 or maybe a W700 in case you use your machine as a desktop replacement. T60p to T61p transition IMO is not worth it.

About 2 months ago, I ran Vista-64 on an X61p for a short time. My point of view was that the 64-bit version wasn't all that that ready for regular use. There were lots of things that didn't quite work. If you use a CAD program all the time and that piesc of software works fine, your experience might be different.

If you have the money go and get a W500 or something when it is on specials... i see no reason why you would want to get a T61p when you already have T60p, when you have no application that really demands it. In addition, you get the inbuilt display port on W500 in addition to a switchable graphic card, all of which T61p don't have.
Aren't the new W500 15.4" WS display panels inferior to the T60p and T61p LCD panels (from reading through our Forum's W500/W700 Section)?

T61p's screen shouldn't be much different to the W500, since they all use TN panels, while T60p can be optioned with Flexiview panel.
