My T61 US keyboard is a version with a Euro symbol located on the bottom right of the "5" key. Does anyone happen to know offhand what key combination is necessary to use it?

I couldn't find mention of it on the Lenovo website. Thanks.

Thank you, but could you be a little more specific.

I have the AltGr key on the right side, but when hitting the "5" key, that does not seem to invoke the Euro symbol.

The Euro symbol is the third function labeled on that key (5, %, Euro). It's a smaller symbol on that key like the imbedded numeric keyboard, but whereas the FN + ScrLK invokes the numeric, it does not relate to the Euro key.

I guess nobody uses the euro key on this forum...

Try AltGr+e.

Besides, there is a DEDICATED printed "Euro" symbol on the "5" key. So there has to be a way to use it.

I'm not tying to look for a symbol combination to map an additional function, but rather how to activate a function that is already on that key.

If one wants to use the second label on a key such as !@#$, one has to use the shift key. There should be a way to use a third label on the "5" key which is a Euro symbol

What they keys do depends on system keymap, not on the keyboard. If you start osk.exe (Start->Run on WinXP, don't know how on Vista), you'll see your current mapping. Press and hold AltGr to see what the keys will do. The same with shift.

Yes, I do understand that. But this is the preload and the original keyboard. Every key is mapped to its default setting.

Since this is a US international keyboard, and therefore has a Euro key, my question is what needs to be done to use it. Trying all the possible combinations in the osk.exe is not much different that trying every possible combination on the keyboard. I still haven't found it.

This is the ONLY key that has a third function, aside from the numerical keyboard, so it is not very obvious.

I'm very sorry for sounding a bit harsh, I did too much conclusions based on too little facts. I'd expect that to work too.

I can't be of much more help though. Just would add that in on-screen-keyboard (osk), you can see all keys at once, what will they do. Just hold AltGr or Shift, no need to try them individually.

I realize that you were trying to be helpful and I do appreciate it.

But if you try osk.exe, you will see that it did NOT seem to indicate the Fn key (or I missed it since it isn't it the right place), so for example, you will not see the numerical keyboard keys which are printed on the 7, 8,9, u,i,o,p keys for example and require the FN + ScrLk key to be enabled. So I'm not sure it will show the Euro key either, since it is a third key function, and may also require a combination of various keys to enable the function.

I've had an easier time imaging a T40 to a T61 then I have figuring out how to use this key. I thought that someone who had the euro key would know how it's enabled.

Alas, it does not work for Fn, because this is very special key on notebooks, which isn't seen by the operating system. I would be very surprised if the euro symbol was generated by any combination with it. All other modificators should work in Osk... and if it's not anywhere, you'll probably have to change keymap (in Windows somewhere like Language and Locale Settings).

Both the T43 and the T61 (both XP pro) have the Euro symbol on Ctrl+Alt +4 and no Euro symbol on the keyboard.

If you go to the Keyboard Customizer Utility, under ThinkVantage, then you can assign the Euro key under the 'Special Character Input' tab. Perhaps this is what was intended? (UK keyboards have £ Sterling sign on 3; $ on 4 and % on 5.)

Try Fn + ScrLk (to make a NmLk). Then press 5.

You have to configure your keyboard as US International, not just US.
Then you can use Alt-Control-5.

Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab > Settings tab > Installed Services > Add > Keyboard layout/IME

Problem I have with US International is that there are other side effects to do with accent keys ^ ` ' "
e.g. if I type a double quote, nothing is displayed until I press another key because it is waiting to see if want an accent applied such as ü (just press space if you just want the double quote). If you are regularly writing French or German this could be useful but not for me.

In the end I leave my keyboard at US and set up a key mapping in Microsoft Word: Insert > Symbol > click on Euro > Shortcut Key > Alt-Ctrl-E

Having installed the US International keyboard you can switch between US and US International via the language bar.
