Hi, my T60 is a 14.1" XGA 1024 x 768 , non-widescreen. I am thinking of the possibility to replace the LCD panel by a SXGA+ 1400 x 1050 one. While my T60 has the Intel 945GM chipset with integrated graphic (Intel GMA 950) only. I am wondering, if I replaced the LCD panel, will the integrated GMA 950 get use of the new panel and really support 1400 x 1050 SXGA+ ???

Welcome to the forum!

There is no problem running SXGA+ with your video card.

On the T4x series you would need to change the LCD cable but on the T6x series you should be good to go with your existing cable.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks, I just ordered the new panel, it's on the way, can't wait to try it! Hope it could keep my old T60 shining for another few years :) will report any progress.

It will work. I already change some panel and never get none working system. ;) TFT panel are standardised much more than most people believe.

They are standardized, as long as you don't try an SXGA panel out of a T4x

Hi. I may also do the XGA->SXGA+ upgrade in my GMA 950 based T60, in the near future. I would like to know more about this.

What exactly panel should I look for? Does it have to explicitly say that it is for a T60 ThinkPad or are the panels compatible with some other brand? Maybe there's some model number that I should look for instead of the notebook model?

Will I have to replace the inverter too or will my current one work fine? Do I need anything else?

TIA

Found a topic with simmilar (unanswered) questions.

Please share the information.

-- EDIT --

I did some research and it is suggested in some threads on the forum that one need to replace the LCD cabel too (besides the LCD panel of course).

However, according to the hardware maintenance manual for T60/p models, both XGA and SXGA+ ThinkPads use the same inverters and cables (same FRUs).

This would mean that one simply needs an SXGA+ panel. Am I right or I missed something?

TIA

Yes, it's right. You only need the panel.
