Dear all,
I have an IBM T60 (2.16GHz core due processor) for the last one year. Now it is giving problem at start up. when i click on power button, it makes two beeps and there is no display, only the board is powered on otherwise windows does not start, then i have to manually turn it off by pressing the power button for few seconds and then try again and again. when i try few times then sometime it gives display and starts up....after sometime of working in windows the computer turns off abruptly....

In short "The laptop gives display and turns on sometime and sometime does not....then i have to keep trying again and again...and also while i am working it turns off abruptly which is very irritating"

few days before it was giving Fan error at start up, i cleaned up the fan and now its working...however i think this problem could be because the system heats up....but i am not sure...

I do not have any IBM support locally here, and the computer is also not in warranty....can anyone please suggest what to do and what in fact could be this problem...is there any solution,

Please help me in this regard, i will be very very thankful.

Download ThinkPad Hardware Maintennance Manual and check the section 'Beep symptoms'.

It seems to be a problem with either memory (DIMM) or the system board.

but what should I do, actually the system starts sometime and sometime it does not start....
is there any thing i can do like software upgrades or configurations etc, except sending it to IBM becuase its not in warranty...

Few days before while i was updating drivers including ATI driver, the computer shut down abruptly and the ATI driver could not install but also the previous ATI software is also gone away now, and since then my laptop has not given that beeps problem,

any ideas on this?, does this means the problem was due to ATI drivers and not any hardware problem? or is the laptop only starting by luck now?.

Unfortunately, luck. You're describing a bootup problem. That's long before Windows gets into the picture and thus the video drivers aren't yet initiated.

I hope your memory is bad, otherwise it's probably the motherboard. If you have any warranty left, now is the time to use it.

Your problem sounds like a motherboard problem, so if you are under warranty get it replaced ASAP, otherwise it is going to cost you a lot of money to do once the warranty has expired.

As i told you guys, i do not have any warranty, and i have to repair the laptop myself.
Now i have checked the problem by replacing the RAM, but it didnt solve. that means the problem is either in
1. systemboard
2. LCD assembly.

Anyone having any idea what i can do to systemboard if i want to check it myself. at least i want to find out that which one of the above (systemboard or LCD) is the main reason so that i can think of replacing that unit. And would it be possible to repair that instead of replacing....
