T60p and firewall in interactive mode

Hi,
I have a t60p and I run ESET Smart Security on it. I run my firewall in automatic mode because changing it to interactive mode gave me problems. After I changed to interactive mode where you have to decide for each application how you want the firewall to handle it, the laptop was blocked for startup after reboot. At interactive mode you can setup rules for your applications such as fingerprint reader, access connection etc.
My only option at the blocked startup was to start XP in safe mode and delete the ESET software and then re-install it.
Does anyone run this on your Thinkpad and do you know how to handle a firewall in interactive mode ?
