I just saw this on Slickdeals and am actually considering it. I don't see much of a difference in the 7200 rpm drive I just bought last week.

Can you take the drive out of its enclosure and use it as the internal drive of a T6x (or in the ultrabay HD caddy)? I.e., is its height 9.5 mm and WD didn't modify the SATA connection/firmware somehow?

I believe this is a standard height drive according to the forums I have been reading. There was a drive released by Simpletech not too long ago and that one was a little bit bigger so it wouldn't fit. As far as removing the drive, it's very simple to remove. You can just slip something thin between the case and that black plastic piece to remove it. It slides right now. From here, you can remove the black casing around the drive and just unplug it. I actually bought a few of these 320gb versions and remove them to upgrade a few laptops. I kept the case just for warranty purposes.

Just to clarify (I'm sometimes somewhat dense): "standard height", do you mean 9.5 mm or 12.7 mm?

9.5mm
