New T61p and loving it. (language question though...)

#1 Post by wehugheog » Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:23 pm

Hi all, it's been quite a while since I posted here.

Well, after a t40 then a T60p I know am the proud owner of a t61p.

I still keep the t60p since it works fine.

Big question though. My current T61p comes from Germany and, as you might know, they have a qwertz keyboard. So i changed my t60p keyboard to the t61p. Problem fixed.

Second, it has Windows Vista Ultimate on the RR. I deleted that (NOT the RR partition) and installed XP pro.

Question: can I get disks for a XP pro installation in a DIFFERENT language then preinstalled ? (remember german installed, but vista is easy in switching languages), however that is not the case in XP pro. I'd love to have the RR disks for English XP pro.

Thanks guys!

You can call up Lenovo if you still got warranty and bargain with them for the option of Vista XP pro english downgrade disc, you would have to pay, but see whether they are willing to sell you one.

Since MS licenses are "by geographic region" I doubt you will be able to get a different language. Each "geography" gets software in one language, AFAIK.

You'd probably have to buy retail software, but you MIGHT be able to call Microsoft directly, explain this is not your native language, and ask them for "replacement media" in your native language. The usual fee for replacement media, without any extra license codes, is $15 in the US. That's when and if it is available.

If MS in your geography can't help you, try the main office in the US and ask for the "fulfillment" department, for replacement media. They might or might not be able to supply it, sometimes the folks at MS will actually bend the rules to help someone.
