FireGL 5250 driver for T60p post XP SP3

Installing XP SP3 killed the ATI catalyst control center's ability to rotate the screen on an external monitor.

ATI said they were looking into it. That was in June. See http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview. ... 20rotation

The 8.5etc driver off their site, for the V5200, does not install on my thinkpad which has the V5250 chipset. They dont even list the 5250 on their site.

Lenovo does not appear to have released an updated driver yet. At least not something visible on System update.

Will they ever release one? Or is the V5250 firegl no longer supported?

Does anyone know? Is there an ETA? Or workaround?

I'm having the same issue! Thanks for articulating it.

Any news on driver updates that resolve the issue would be VERY much appreciated.

Cheers,
Brian

I gave up waiting for Lenovo to issue a patch.

Since I have a Samsung monitor, I installed their MagicRotation software, which works well.

You can download it here http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor ... on_05s.htm

if you want to install latest ATI drivers on a laptop that doesn't allow the Unified driver from ATI to install just get the mobility modder ->
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php all it does is unlock the driver so it can be installed on any laptop.

hope this may help.

Thanks xbytes. Good thought there.

Problem is, ATI does not even list the FireGL V5250 as a product on their site.

Hey Guys.

Thanks so much for the flurry of chatter on your similar struggles.

I ended up re-reading the notes on what was included in SP3, and thought I could do without it.

I uninstalled SP3 and after a couple of reboots, all was restored in rotation capabilities with my external monitor.

I looked into Mobility Modder option, but will keep it as an option should I see the need for SP3 in the future.

Thanks again to you all.

Thankfully I came across this from Google search, as I was experiencing the same grief.

I followed xbytes' suggestion and found the latest Catalyst drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/r ... us-xp.html and used the Mobility Modder to "unlock" the drivers for my T60P.

I can now enjoy all the functionality of the Catalyst Control Center with my multiple monitors.
