Processor upgrade performance?

I've tried to search for impressions of real-life performance change after processor upgrades but haven't found any.
My question is if there is any significant change that one notices after going from a T2400 (my machine is a T60 2613EAU which has a core duo 1.83) to a T7200/7400/7600 core 2 duo with my configuration. I have 3G RAM and XP Pro but am considering changing to Vista. My machine has the older style 14" LCD (not WS), which I prefer, with ATI discrete graphics.
So would this machine seem slow using Vista (at least the Bus version, if not Ultimate), and would upgrading the processor as noted show an obvious performance improvement? Getting the T7x00 would be a relatively expensive proposition, so it's a price per performance issue.
I'm interested in your comments.

I don't think it'll benefit you much. Main thing Vista needs is ram, which you've already maxed out. A better harddrive will help as well.

Thanks. That's sorta what I was thinking. BTW I did just upgrade to a Seagate 250G 7200 HD!

Also, if you don't have a rev 3 motherboard, it won't work.

To latch on to this, would it be worth it to go from a T7500 to a T9300?

Probably about a $100 difference once I buy a T9300 and sell my T7500.

Whats the best CPU a T61p can take?

How do you find out which motherboard revision you have?

I have a rev C0 mb, and I currently have a T7300. Can I upgrade to a 9000 series eventually?

Thats the processor. Go the the main board tab to get the board revision.

I think the "highest" processor that a T60 can handle is a T7600. I'm pretty sure the newer ones (T9000 series) won't fit due to an incompatible pin layout/socket. The T61 shouldn't be affected by this limitation.

Here are some other threads related to this:

EDIT: Acutally theres quite a few threads about this topic, just search for "T7600" in this subforum.
