WLAN connectivity issues (T61, 4965AGN)

Hello everyone,


First i want to say "hello" to the community Now i'm also a proud Thinkpad T61 - owner

This is my problem:
When trying to connect to the WLAN router (D-Link DI-525, 54mbit) it says "obtaining IP address" like forever and then after some amount of time finally says "limited access to the network, with a yellow warning symbol)

1 out of 10 tries it actually works and i get a connection after 30mins of waiting, restarting, wlan-switch-switching and finger-crossing ^_^

Things i have tried:
-Different drivers (actual from intel website 12.0.4.0 and the one from System Update)
-Different encryptions (None works, but WEP, WPA, WPA2 dont)
-Tried with Access COnnections 5.02 and without

Operating System is WinXP Pro SP2.


Is this a general issue with XP and if yes: is there any fix?


Hope you can help me, cause my old 2200bg is connecting like a charm and my girlfriend laughs about my new Thinkpad xD

Hi,

Are you using Dynamic IP configuration on the T61p or a static IP address?

I assume you are using the Thinkpad Access Connections utility to configure your network (very handy all-in-one place to sort your network settings out).

If not the principle applies to the Windows Network Config manager.

You have a cached IP connection somewhere, so for whatever reason (whether your router has given you the same dynamic ip address or your using the same static ip address), there is a conflict so it can't assign the IP address.

Open up a command prompt and type the following 3 commands:

Code: Select all

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

This will clear the routing information for your network connection. If your using the Lenovo tool then delete any profiles in there and create a new one.

If your using a dynamic IP address, make sure your router is configured correctly to give your laptop a valid IP address.

Let me know how you got it configured, I am sure we can sort this quickly.

Forgot to mention, if your using an Static IP address, simply give your laptop a different address e.g change from 10.1.1.2 to 10.1.1.3

Already tried static and dynamic IPs, still stays at the "obtaining IP" part.

Did all the renew and release stuff 1000 times :/


Im using AC 5.02 now and when i want to search the ssid, it says "WLAN is off, do you want to turn it on?"
I click yes but nothing happens (the option to enable/disable the wlan also doesnt appear in the Fn+F5 menu, whilst the bluetooth part works perfect)


any opinions?

Problem solved:

Just set the Energy-Saving-Mode in the Advanced Settings of Access Connection from High to Medium, now it connects in 3 seconds...

I'm glad that i can use my computer as desired now but also a little disappointed cause i never had to change any options like this energy-saving in other cards and in fact im sitting right beneath the router...


Maybe that helps other user also struggling around with not getting an IP.
