Adding Bluetooth to T61p--Where the eff is the Screw?

#1 Post by UpIn5mOk3 » Tue Oct 07, 2008 10:20 pm

Hey guys,
Long time lurker and thinkpad fan here. I just received a bluetooth module for my t61p in the mail. I have no problem installing it (or atleast I shouldn't) but does the screw that holds the module in place come with the laptop already? It doesn't come with the bt adapter....and I was scanning some other forums and came across a FRU for just the screw. Hopefully I won't have to order it from lenovo...

TIA

If you have no other screws use one that fits from elsewere on your ThinkPad on the outside that you can then replace later since the module is inside the LCD bezel. I would be more concerned that if you have not checked already that your LCD cable has no connection for it.

unlike older models, the T61/T61p has the BT socket on the cable whether BT is configured or not.

Thanks for the info.

I was surprised by no connector on a T60 before.

Are the Bluetooth modules the same?

Would you consider doing an illustrated step by step when you actually do the install? (pictures at each step) It would be greatly appreciated. :)

That was my original idea, but I'm a perfectionist and really anal when it comes to my computers, and knowing one screw is missing would drive me nuts.

Actually, yea. I never really thought about that. Thanks for the idea, it'll make this install a little more fun. Now for that [censored] screw...do you guys think Lenovo reps would have a clue? I guess its worth a shot to call them up tomorrow.

Since the screw is under the bezel temporarily remove a like screw from the outside so you can complete the upgrade. Then you can replace the outside screw at a later date. This way you can be using your Bluetooth immediately.

I can send you one screw.

Screw

#11 Post by peralex1 » Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:09 pm

Take a screw holding keyboard bezel down to the fan assembly. It has 2 screws. They are exactly the same as the one holding BT module in place. Are you taking the hole screen assembly off? You can do it without that step. Slightly painfull but save a ton of time. Suggest to check Lenovo training video web site on how to take screen assembly apart especially if you never done T61 screen - it is very different than all previous models including T60. Here is a link http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/
Just my 2 cents.
