Crucial 64 SSD T61P very slow

I recently installed a crucial 64 SSD to replace my old HD, but it's slow, it's even slower than my old 100G 7200RPM drive. does anyone know why? I have updated to the latest bios. I thought SSD drives were suppose to be faster.

You don’t tell us the SSD model that you are using, but I guess it is the 64GB Crucial Internal 2.5" Solid State Drive, model CT64GBFAA0 the datasheet for which can be found here (NB: At the very end of this datasheet, on the bottom of page 2, it says: ”© 2008 Micron Technology, Inc. Crucial, and the Crucial logo are trademarks/service marks of Micron Technology Inc. in the U.S. and outside of the U.S.” - this just mention because in some reviews "Micron" SSD's may perhaps be the same as "Crucial" SSD's).

Do you run Vista or XP? Reason for asking is that at least one other user of a Crucial (32 GB) SSD has reported some problems getting it to work; read this Newegg customer review. Also, Computerworld recently compared four drives; two SSD’s (one 32 GB Crucial) and two mechanical HDD’s (one 250 GB/7200 rpm Seagate) and found that in some cases the SSD’s were fastest while in other cases the mechanical HDD’s were fastest – read this review here. Many other reviews however report that Crucial SSD’s are very fast… so I don’t have a clue why you experience what you do?

No Apparently a lot of MLC SSD out there are currently having pefromance problems, unlike the SLC counterpart.

Please read the two hyperlinks above which I have posted for you to provide a better insight.

I have also been waiting for the right time to jump into the SSD from Mechanical HDD, and have been following forums and reviews closely. Finally reading Anandtech article on Intel X25-M really shed me some light.

hmm, it could be that i didn't install the chipset drivers. I'll try that later and see if that makes a difference.

also, with the recovery cds i brought from www.thinkpadrecovery.com, doesn't it include the drivers for the chipsets? plus when i use it hangs my system. the cds i'm using doesn't have my model listed, which is 6459-CTO.

I can only assume your model isn't listed because it is a CTO which are usually heavily configured web order machines.

That being said, Intel is great at providing drivers and so is IBM / Lenovo.

I finally figured out why my crucial 64GB SSD is slow, it's cause I didn't install the drivers for the onboard intel chipset. but even with it working property, I'm still not impress with the speed. It's not really fast, or it could be that this particular brand SSD. if I'm not mistaken, crucial ssd are MLC.
