Somewhat urgent T61 hard-drive question

Alas, the hard-drive on my T61 has died. I need to order a new one. Do I need to order one specifically from Lenovo? Or can I just go out to Newegg and order whatever SATA drive that I like? I've heard that some models of Thinkpad had BIOS's that forced one to buy from Lenovo/IBM. Is that true of the T61?

There are no bios compatibility issues with the T61. Pick any 2.5" SATA drive.

The only model that had it was the T43.

Don't order one that's too thick. I think the max thickness is 9mm (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There are some 500GB 2.5" drives that will not fit in your laptop.

Yes, quite right, there's a Hitachi 12.5mm 500GB that would not fit in your T61. WD has also a 500GB HDD the WD5000BEVS which is 9mm thick and it's like 150USD at Newegg. I'd go for the 5K320 which is not that pricey.
