T60 - a few compatibility questions

I'm buying used T60, seller agreed to sell me without RAM and HDD.
I plan to buy these parts alone in better spec

I want 1x2GB however there are huge price differences and so
what would you recommend ?

Would KVR667D2S5/2G work fine alone ? someone posted that KVR667D2S5/1G works so maybe 2G also

Does T60 accept SATA or SATA II also ? I want as huge HDD as possible however I don't want to buy something that won't work

T60 supports both S150 and S300, but S300 hdd will only work in S150 mode.

so can I buy whatever 9,5mm 500GB SATA II hard drive ?

I consider using second HDD in a bay and here I know only SATA II might not work.

There are some DVD burners available for T42. Does T42 share the same bay as T60 or not ? in other words if it works with T42, would it work with T60 ?

I don't know if there is a good reason (except for portability) to burn with expensive bay burner at 2.4x speed if I can buy for less money slim USB burner that is powered by USB and performs 8x for DVD

T60 accepts SATA-II drives but can only utilize SATA-I performance. This isn't a big issue if you're not using SSD drives.

Instead of a large 5400rpm drive you may consider a smaller 7200rpm one which will perform much better.

Both T4x and T6x use the same UltraBay Slim devices. The only difference is the front bezel. T6x have a straight one whereas T4x use a curved one. If you get one of these, it will work but it will look odd.

thanks for you reply, as I thought it might be better to get 320 GB 7200 or 500 GB

I often shuffle houndreds of digital photos so faster disk may be better for me

right now my only concern is memory, I found out that probably most compatible will be SODIMM - is that right ?



BTW: 2GB RAM + GMA 950 + T2400 : would it handle some HD video ?

According to ThinkWiki, T60 takes one or two PC2-5300 memory modules which are a DDR2-SDRAM modules.

HD video should work just fine, I have the same setup and just tried a sample video I've found (1280x544) and it worked flawlessly with CPU peeking at around 35%.

I haven't done any benchmarks, but my 320gb 5400 RPM WD Scorpio loads my OS faster than my 200gb 7200 RPM Hitachi(Both SATA-II). Windows, Linux, etc. Applications load faster too. I'd recommend this drive to anyone.

I've choosen WD3200BEKT, it's fast and cheap

I don't need fall sensor as 90% usage is desktop

The Scorpio Black does offer the slightly quicker access time (15.4 ms vs. 15.6 ms) and clearly superior I/O performance. In fact, this is the fastest 2.5” 7,200 RPM SATA drive when it comes to high transaction capability. But the Scorpio Black cannot deliver the transfer rates of the Momentus 7200.3. It hits 84 MB/s compared to 89 MB/s for the Seagate drive; this is a 5% difference.

As for memory I will buy GoodRAM as it is very cheap, fast and confirmed to work in different TP models
