Please help locating a source for a T61p LG display

#1 Post by 701C » Tue Oct 21, 2008 7:39 am

Hello everybody,

my new T61p is equipped with rather bad quality LCD suffering from shaded areas at the right and bottom area. It is a Samsung 1680 x 1050 ( WSXGA+ ), Type LTN 154P2-L05.

As I read in the forums that Lenovo won't replace these poor backlighted displays on warranty, I would like to replace it myself for an LG diplay which are said to be better quality.

Could you please give my a hint:
Which LG type would fit the T61P and where to purchase best at an affordably price?

Thank you very much

The whole change is not worth the price. Really.

You can see that differences between Samsung and LG are very slight ...
I don't say the Samsung screen is as good as LG (cause LG is a bit better) but I don't believe it's profitable to buy new screen just to get a little change.

Thank you for your hint. Very interesting display comparisom.

But my Samsung display is really unbearably bad, will have to replace it anyways. So I'd rather purchase an LG instead.

Regrettably my Lenovo P/N 42T0328 is not listed in the Lenovo spare parts list, therefore I could not find the LG comparisom type for a Samsung LTN 154P2-L05.

Could anybody help with the LG type no.?

Guessing a spare part from Lenovo would be too expensive I would rather buy it elsewhere. Do you know a reliable dealer to provide an LG display at an affordable price?

there are two LG FRU numbers listed here for WSXGA+ displays: 42T0417 and 42T0423.   however, i don't know what the difference is between them or know their actual manufacturer part numbers.

My suggestion is to take it into a premium service provider. Often, a dealer will replace a screen under warranty, that they won't replace at the depot. (especially if the dealer is not very busy and needs the work)

Thanks a lot to everybody for replying. :)

Is any T61p owner with an WSXGA+ display made by LG out there?
The free diagnostic tool "PCWizard" is capable to extract the LG type number, it will be listed under Monitor type right away. Seems to be a nice little freeware diagnostic tool by the way. Just google and download 3 Mb.

I sent you these links in a private message but will copy them here too so some other people with the same problem could read it:

Wojtek, thank you for the links!

The thread on notebookreview.com was quite informative. According to it the LG part no. is LP154W02-TL06.
Now all I need is to find is a reliable dealer who won't sell me any returned/refurbished/classC junk.

Anybody experienced in display purchase? 8)
