second monitor never stays in correct position

Hi,

I use an external monitor as my primary monitor. I set this through the Thinkvantage Presentation Director.

My external monitor is physically to the right of my laptop which is the secondary monitor when I am docked.

When I dock and undock, every single time the display setting "forgets" that my external monitor is in the right position and it reverts to think that it's to the left.

Essentially to drag a window to the other monitor I need to drag it the other way. It's a huge pain in the neck. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Setup:
Windows Vista Enterprise
T60p w/ dock, DVI output to Samsung external monitor

Did you check the box in presentation director that enables the profile you created every time that you dock your Thinkpad?

Alternatively, look into the ATI control center (CCC) and profiles there, which might provide also a solution.

That box is grayed out so that's one tough nut for me to crack ?!?!?

I'll check into the ATI control center (CCC) and profiles.

The box shouldn't be grayed out, at least I have never seen that on my machine(s). However, what I have seen is that presentation director forgot where the monitors are located; i.e., it worked well for quite some time and then just one day it switched positions (similar to what you described). The solution was to uninstall it, reboot and reinstall it again.

I guess tomorrow I'm going to uninstall and see if I get a box that's not grayed out on me ;)

Will report back.

Just to clarify the grayed out box. Can you click in the check box left of "Immediately apply this display scheme" (so that it becomes checked)? If so, the grayed out drop down menu should become accessible.

Actually, the box is always grayed out.

Even after a reinstall.

This is on a t60p where the external monitor is attached via DVI.

Maybe the problem is that I have a port replicator and not an official "dock".

This is now just a constant annoyance. Sigh.

If you are using DVI, then you have the Advanced Mini Dock, right? I've the same setup. The only difference is that I'm running Win XP and you Vista. Maybe that's the culprit. Have you updated presentation director to the latest version?

I just updated to the latest version of presentation director.

What an odd, annoying bug.
