Bitlocker multiple problems setting up on T60

T60 with TPM and Core 2 Duo running Vista 64 SP1 with all patches.
When turning on Bit Locker, after preparing the disk with the MS tool,
If running the set up from USER then I have to enter the Admin password. It asked for me to put the backup key on a USB drive. After doing that and while trying to do the mandatory restart, it gives me the error that two users are logged on so it can not shutdown.
After killing the bitlocker program and forcing and restart by saying it was OK to shut down with another user logged on, it generates the message: 'bitLocker could not be enabled" Recovery key could not be found but it is in the USB thumb drive.
If I try it when logged in as Admin, then it gives me the message that the path can not be found. This despite my having followed the MS instructions for correcting this.
What a mess.
Anyone have any clean way to use this feature on a T60?
