T60p Newbie Question- Constant Hard Drive Chirping

#1 Post by mbarker » Wed Nov 12, 2008 7:19 am

Hi all,

I recently bought a second-hand T60p for my dad, which I've been trying to set up for him. It is a type 2007-93U. My problem is that when the machine is at idle (not being asked to do anything), it is constantly accessing the HD. About once per second it makes a very, very slight chirp and flashes the Device Access light. I find this highly annoying when working in a quiet environment. My trusty T42p sits perfectly silently nearby.

I've tried to lighten the load in the System Tray, but have had no luck in stoping the problem. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

My guess would be that "disk optimization when idle" is enabled?
