T60 HD install Problem, Cloned 4 diff ways and no boot

#1 Post by cameradoc » Wed Nov 26, 2008 12:03 pm

Ok Like I said in the subject line, I have run
Acronis, ghost,WD utility and Drive clone pro.
All clone perfectly fine but when I swap the drives all I get is black screen with binking cursor.
Tried forcing to boot from the drive but stil no go.
What am I missing?
This is so frustrating,
Thanks, T

Welcome to the forum!

That blinking cursor is so frustrating. Ask me how I know.

Try swapping your source drive and your target drive.

Like Brad said: Mount the TARGET drive IN the T60 and the SOURCE drive in the external usb enclosure.

Edit. I meant to say DESTINATION drive in the T60 and SOURCE drive in the usb enclosure.

Thanks fella's, Hey Paul Isaw your response to a similar deal someone else was having on the lenova forum
I guess you can say I have been using my little research skills to the max on this trouble some machine lol.

I have indeed tried that even before I read that but to no avail. but I'm sure I'm missing something quite simple.
I did put the original "source" drive outa the pad and onto the usb device and the new "target" drive in the pad but then I can't force windows to boot from it just the same as I can't from the clone copy.
Am I dense?
There has got to be some simple back door action that I'm missing.
huh I said backdoor action! that wasfunny, I'm slap happy. Been a very long day.

I'm bout ready to just buy an ultra bay to try that and see iff it works using that. Thinking that closure to being a "real" drive in the unit. I dunno just thinkin out loud totally lost and obviously in over my head.
help

Make an Acronis TI boot disk, and boot from that in the Ultrabay optical device, then use the copy of True Image on that boot CD to do the clone from the HDD in the USB case to the HDD in the ThinkPad main drive bay.

Having said that, using an UltraBay HDD drive carrier is really the simplest solution, as you can then boot off either hard drive (that's what I use).

Cheers,

So that is exactly what I decided to try next.
install new drive inside
hook up ld via usb
and boot from acronis bootdisk, so far so good appears to be copying now. all I have to do now is wait the 12 hours the creen is staing for it to complete the copy process. we will see.
I however am finally having good feelings about this!
Thanks everyone. I will update in the morning if I have been sucsessfull. I mean when I have been sucsessfull!

Just to understand how you used those four programs before. You ran them from within Windows?

Like Bill mentioned they need to be run from a rescue CD or bootdisk like you appear to be trying now.
