T61 Display replacement

My story is about a T61 which I love with all the problems being caused by my own carelessness. It started when I accidentally stepped on the the machine while closed and cracked the display. The display still worked but had the purple line along the crack.
I did not want to spend the $$ for an IBM display repair so I bought a new display on ebay. My stupidity was when I went to change the display I forgot to take the battery out and while removing the bezel I arced across the lights in front of the inverter. I ordered a new inverter. I then replaced the inverter and display. I can not get the display to work at all. It will run an external monitor.
My next attempt was to replace the inverter again and I also replaced the ribbon cable to the main board.
My question in all of this is have I screwed up something on the main board that drives the display. If so is this something that can be fixed. Is there someplace that could repair it without paying the same price as a new box.
I liked the T61 so much I tried to order a new one but wound up with a T400.l Love it but would like to salvage the T61 as a backup.
I appreciate any suggestions people have.
Thank you.
