T60p crashing with graphic intensive software

#1 Post by pare » Sat Nov 29, 2008 4:43 am

Hello all.
This is my first post in the forum. i stumbled upon it while looking for solution for my T60p problem.
whenever i use Alias studiotools, Autodesk Showcase(both are graphic intensive softwares), the TP is crashing.
It crashes suddenly while using the software and all LED indicators go off(even if the laptop is conncetd to charging adaptor). After this i cant start the system by poweron button. I pullout the battery and put it back again to start it.(this doesnt work always on first try)
I have tried the following things,
-- Reinstalling the latest graphic drivers
-- Reinstalling the entire system to factory settings, install latest drivers
-- cooling base for laptop(seems to work longer without crash, not sure)
-- opened laptop for checking for dust. no unreasonable dust on fan or elsewhere
-- diagnostics lenovo system tool box (lenevo service centre suggestion). this shoed every is alright. still crashing the same way
-- tried older version of alias studiotools which i was using 1 year ago. still crashing in the same manner(it wasnt 1 year ago)
-- ran 3Dmark06 to get a score of 703!
-- tried omega driver as suggested in this forum(dont get a lot of features of software)

other facts which may help,

-- had given laptop for 'general crashing" 3-4 months ago, harddisk, motherboard changed...overheating problem due to fan malfunction.(concerned about right heat transmitting adhesives, assembly misfits, etc )
-- no unreasonable heating noticed, system heat normal even when crashing
-- CS3 hasnt shown any problems...doesnt crash
-- normal use(non graphic intensive software) gives absolutely no problem. never crashed.
-- lenovo latest drivers installed

system config:

T60p: T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5200(hyper memory 512MB), CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, WWAN, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Hoping someone will know the solution, suggestion, or the core of the problem
thanks a lot for going through the post...i know its a long one!

Welcome to our forum.

Rather than trying to suggest any other solution, have a look at this thread:

Perhaps other forum members recognize this problem?

Much obliged RealBlackStuff,
I am reading through this thread right now....though the problems are not exactly the same, i will try implimenting some of the solutions and check out.
will keep the thread going with my experience with the problem.
thanks a lot.

----------------------------------------
Went through the thread.

The following thgs are different from it,
-- mine is a T60p while that is a T61P
-- my t60p uses 1X1GB ram and the T61p faced this problem only when both ram slot were occupied.
-- the bug ended up to be a (later sorted) motherboard problem.
-- no other t60p reported the similar problem

i have put a post in the lenovo forum too, just incase someone have a similar problem.

Thanks a lot guys...m gald that i may be getting a step closer to solution :)
----------------------------------------------
updated bios from IBM site.
3Dmark06 crashing in similar way just when it starts the first test...

hello all,
just got my TP back from service centre. They had a hardtime zeroing in on the problem.
they tried replacing MB, RAM, and operating system and the problem persisted.
Found later that it was a fan problem..."surprising it never was hot when it crashed...also i used use the cooling base for the laptop.."
now the 3D mark score is 1650,...much higher than previously low 650 score.
had asked the depot guys to check with 3Dmark...they obliged.
Thanks all for the views...
