t61p goes into standby on its own

#1 Post by gradas » Thu Dec 04, 2008 2:45 pm

I started having a problem with my t61p. The machine goes into standby while I am working on it. Seems to do it while disk IO is high.
Last time I let it fully go standby and turned it back on and it was fine. Today it was immediately going to standby again and again. I killed it with power button and then windows did not load - XP startup screen was getting stuck on a very first screen where it is supposed to start "fading in." I let the machine sit turned off for 10 min and it started up. Nothing in the event viewer.

Does this look like it's overheating? Or maybe this is something common for many t61(p)?

What is the status of the battery? Is the A/C adapter charging? Is is a 65W or 90W adapter?

The adapter is 90W, plugged in. Buttery is charged when this happens, holds charge ok.

This is not common with all/other T61p machines. Do you have a warranty? If so, it's time to use it.

my friend has a thinkpad t60p and he had a similar issue..but the thing is that the system was going into standby mode when there was heavy usage of internet....for example whenevr he was running many browser windows or downloading quite many torrents, his system would immediately go into stand by..

Do you think his laptop should visit the lenovo center as well!!

That behavior doesn't seem right on T60p or T61p, but I was more concerned on the T61p because there is a known problem where the Nvidia graphics chip fails. If the T60p still is under warranty it is certainly worth a free call to document your concerns.

Hm... this is bad news for me, because this machine had 1 year warranty and it just expired about a month ago...
