How to complete password reset/recovery service procedure

Hello all,
I want to take precautions against my forgetting all the magic passwords
before that fatal hour descends on me.
This actually involves 2 things: 1. a Windows password and 2. the BIOS hardware power-on and hdd password.
1. Under CSS, there's the Password Recovery option-ran it, set up the prompts. Question: how can I check/test it works? Can't see anything like "I have forgotten my password". Doesn't that mean the procedure hasn't been finished?
2. In BIOS, the relevant hardware password reset service option says: "In progress. To complete, run Create Recovery Media" (quoting from memory). I've already got a set of RnR disks; booted from the first just to check if there's anything on that, but no, or so it seems.
Any ideas? (especially on point 2, as Windows passwords are easy to crack, unlike hard disk ones...)
Thanks in advance
Dominik
