Will this work? SDD in the ultrabay of a T60

Was thinking of a way to extend the life of my T60, since it's starting to get bogged down. Let me know what you think...

Since I rarely use the optical drive, and already have a HDD caddy, I thought about buying a smaller SDD (30 gb or so, I'll have a closer look at prices later) and installing the OS and some basic programs to that drive. That will be set to my boot drive, and I'll keep the current drive in the HDD slot, as it will be better protected from shocks. In the case that I need to use the CD drive, I can boot from the HDD, and swap in the optical. Any thoughts?

What's slowing down your T60? SSDs are extremely faster readers, but can hang during write operations, even the good ones. I'd check out some reviews. I think it's unlikely you can pull ultrabay with the OS and have the machine work.

Or you can just reinstall windows, which you'd have to do either way.

From what I understand you plan on having two OS installs that may not have the same programs, and have to reboot to use your cd drive... would get annoying. If I got an SSD, I would put the old drive in the ultrabay, and have the power settings configured to have it turned off most of the time to keep it protected.
