T60 dual screen and KVM Switch

#1 Post by Christian » Wed Dec 10, 2008 4:45 pm

I am struggeling with my KVM switch and my T60 at the moment. I run a dual display (external monitor as primary and internal as secondary) and then i switch to my workstation with a KVM switch. Each time I do that my T60 tries to place the desktop on the laptop and changes resolutions forth and back until I return to it. Its time consuming and sometimes I cannot get the monitor to work after I have switched between it and the workstation. Are there any settings that will stop the T60 from detecting displays and just show the screen out in the blind?

No one with KVM Switch problems at all? I am also having problems at boot. When I want to enter the BIOS everythings stalls for 2 seconds then I can type for 2 seconds then stalls for 2 seconds. The external display turns on and off while this is happening. I am getting really frustrated with this.

Can anyone tell me what kind of KVM switch they use and how well it works?

Thanks

I have a Belkin KVM myself, but not set-up like yours.
The problem is that a KVM can handle only ONE monitor at the time, and you want it to switch TWO.
Not possible in my opinion.

While I have a kvm, since I'm running windows on the computers, I end up just using remote desktop. That way I can remote to one machine, and have that display show up in one monitor as either full size, or smaller. Then with remote desktop, I can copy/paste between the windows, or have one machine drives mounted on the connected machine, so I can copy files back and forth without creating explicit share drives.

And now with windows live sync, you can even access the remote desktop from the internet.

Well. I do not have to external monitors. I use the LCD on the T60 and the external monitor. What model of Belkin are you using? Are you using DVI and USB?

I also use remote desktop alot but when using graphic intensive applications it is simply not good enough.

I have a Belkin SOHO F1DS104P, which is for 4 PCs with sound. VGA, not DVI.

Gotcha!
My monitor (HP LP1965) has 2 DVI ports, one is directly attached to my main PC (which has a gfx-card with DVI).
The other port has a DVI-VGA cable, with VGA end attached to the output of the KVM.
I only use the KVM if I have to run more than one PC and then push the switch on my HP monitor.
I also have a second 15" LCD for my laptop repairs.

Well.. I Actually got a 20" Apple Cinema screen connected. There is only one DVI input on it so I am kinda stuck here. Maybe I should look for a new monitor with dual DVI inputs. It would certainly help with some of the problems I have.
