T60 gets very hot on back side
My T60 t2400 gets very hot under it in fan area and extend heat to half of notebook back side !! This is happent when use it more that 2 hours.so hard that i'am forced to move it from my feets when i seat down. This product is second hand and i just got it , never use it continous more then 4 hours.
It is normal? what tests should i make to be sure that all is ok. Itryed with pc doctor for windows but all results are good.
thank you.

Download and run coretemp. Post the core temperatures after 2 hours.

Definitely not. My T7400 Cores stay at 51-52°C with Power Manager set to Maximum Performance and doing different tasks like browsing, word, excel, torrent client etc.. Plus I haven´t shut down my ThinkPad for a few days now.

Sounds like a possible bad fan, and there is also likely no thermal paste in there. My father's T60 (T2300 CPU, Intel graphics) stays cool to the touch (mostly) with little to no fan operation. There is definitely something wrong with that one.

As others have stated, check the fan. The first step is to remove the keyboard, hold the fan blade still, and blow out the fan cavity with compressed air. Reassemble, then try the above test again. If it still runs hot, run PC-Doctor tests on the fan, if they pass remove the fan and reapply the thermal compound. Use these (2) links as a guide -

oh my good...seems like there was a reason for cheap price.....
I make it test - fan is ok ,now i will clean fan and try again but seems like no thermal paste on cpu.
Please someone tell me why do I need to apply thermal paste and what are the effects to lower temperature on my cpu? This is a famous IBM and I need to add this on my cpu? Why didnt have it from factory? I will check to see how cpu looks like and try to find this special paste and folow some youtube tutorial to add paste...

i sow it on youtube ,almost transparent , i hope its mising . Or if it is, how can be recognized if my cpu paste must be replaced?
Abaut fan , there is any software to test performance of fan to eliminate fan issue from the start? PC-DOCTOR it seems to make a very fast test not reasonable.
As I understand my problem its 100% remediable , if fan is ok then thermal paste will fix it 100%. Right?

thank you all , tomorow I will buy Artctic Silver 5 and apply on CPU.
Abaut ram upgrade , I have 1Gb ddr2 single . I want a total of 2GB ram , it is ok to buy another 1GB ram or should I get single 2gb for one slot ? I see many complains abaut having both slots occupied get some failure sometimes and system freeze or shut down because of some platform error.

I think my problem abaut high cpu temp its solved , fan was fullll of dust and i replaced thermal paste.
Sometime ,especialy when windows starts , display flicker one-2 times very fast. any idea why?
