Computer goes to sleep on it's own
Computer goes to sleep on it's own
My wife's T61 has started going into sleep mode while she is plugged in and working. I looked inthe event managed and didn't see anything. I checked that she her power profile was set to max performance. No power/bios related updates. Our only idea is that perhaps her computer is overheating. (it seemed hot, but I thought it was normal). Is there anyway to track this? What is the max temp her computer should be running?
Thanks
Thanks
To monitor system temperature, as well as manipulate the fan, I use TPFanControl - http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html
Thinkpads should not overheat unless they're under/in some extreme conditions. You should review your whole system, starting resource-hogging elements such as virus and spyware.
I personally use NOD32 as my anti-virus and spybot as my anti-spyware agent.
Good luck!

Yeah sometimes it does it three times in a row, and sometimes it can be a week without going to sleep by itself.
I just installed TPFanControl and the CPU is currently at 75 C, just using Firefox, docked in my advanced mini-dock.
I think about taking it to a service center... I'm glad I bought it with a 3 years depot warranty+accident protection. Already took it in once last year to get the fan replaced because it got very noisy.

TPFanControl has three fan settings: BIOS-, Smart-, and manual mode. The default setting is smartmode, which is an ideal setting when running on _battery_ not plugged in.crackrock wrote: I just installed TPFanControl and the CPU is currently at 75 C, just using Firefox, docked in my advanced mini-dock.
Make sure that the TPFanControl is set to run in BIOS-mode. If your system is reaching 75C doing minor tasks such as browsing, then there are some irregularities.
Since both of you are experience the exact same problem, my initial thoughts are that Lenovo maybe has rolled out some bad updates. But i'll let other T61 users clarify that

I haven't followed this thread but I would just like to add that I read in some thread lately that ThinkPads get a bit warmer when docked. Of course that alone can't be the reason for the problem but may be something to consider when looking at the temps.
