T60P 2613-CTO - SATA II Compatible?

#1 Post by VirtueTech » Mon Dec 15, 2008 2:14 pm

Hello everyone,

I purchased a Western Digital Scorpio Black, model # WD3200BJKT. This is a SATA II hard drive.

However I'm only seeing the following results using HDTach:

Burst Speed: 122.6 MB/s
Random Access: 14.6 ms
Average read: 69.0 MB/s

Can my machine run at SATA II 3.0 mode, or only at 1.5?

Thanks. :)[/img]

I am afraid that your ThinkPad will only do SATA 1. As far as I know the SATA 2 spec will be backward compatible.

Is there anyway I can upgrade my T60P? Perhaps a new motherboard?

I am afraid not. I have read here that there are other bottlenecks to acheiving the stated specs so as I understand it even a SATA 2 interface will not get you much higher results.

By the way is this a widescreen?

This is my results with my T60p and an Hitachi 7K200

Yours ----------------------7K200

Burst Speed: 122.6 MB/s......116.3
Random Access: 14.6 ms.......15.7
Average read: 69.0 MB/s........51.3

Hard drives are continuously improving.

AFAIK there's no conventional notebook hard drive that can surpass the SATA-I limit (150MB/s). The lack of support for SATA-II in T60 is only relevant if you have an SSD drive.

No T60/p motherboard supported SATA-II.
