High Pitched Noise from Graphics Card/HD?

Hi Everyone,
I know the thinkpad line of products have many which produce high pitched noises. However, I've searched everywhere and mine seems a little strange. The laptop is (Thinkpad R61 [same idea as the T61] with T7300, X3100 Graphics, 4GB RAM, 120GB, 5400RPM Hitachi HD)
Here's the situation:
High-pitched:
AC + Windows Vista + NO external monitor
Battery + Windows Vista + NO external monitor
NO high-pitched:
Battery + external monitor
AC + Windows Vista + external monitor
AC/Battery + SUSE/Ubuntu
Playing a game or movie...
The noise seems to be coming from the hard drive area so I'm suspecting the hard drive makes high-pitched noises. Now the problem lies in the senarios where no high-pitched noise occurs (seems to be a graphics driver problem with vista)
Anyone have any information?
Thanks
